Mobile Phone and Etiquette
Lately mobile phones are so widely used that new rules appear to regulate their usage. Many social institutions have departments that study the impact of the mobile phone upon human behavior. The problem of the mobile phone usage and etiquette has become the object of their study. The rapid and wide distribution of mobile communication has led to the situations where its usage is considered to be a bad manner.
Firstly mobile phones were prohibited in most schools and higher educational establishments. The main reason for this is that mobile phone is the disturber of educational process. Teachers and professors are often interrupted by loud ringtones while delivering their lectures. Having a mobile phone can be the reason for disqualification while passing examination. Besides, many students use their mobile phones as cribs for cheating.
It's also forbidden to use mobile phones in public places such as theatres, libraries or even restaurants. But such verbal rule was not enough, thus the constructors have invented another preventive measure. They cover the walls with the specific material that jams the mobile radio signals.
Of course, the usage of mobile phone in office and during a meeting is the matter of good manners. Many people consider it impossible to answer the call or read the messages in the phone that belongs to someone else, no matter who it is. Others consider it as a matter of fact. It's also necessary to follow the etiquette during the conversation itself. You need to be polite when the caller is wrong with the phone number; and you need to ask your talker if it is comfortable for him to talk with you. Another controversial question is the calling back. None of you want to be ignored. It is considered polite to call back in the next 1-2 hours if you didn't have the chance to answer the call.
